BioCode® Respiratory Pathogen Panel (RPP)

Acute respiratory infections (ARIs) are viral or bacterial infections that arise in the upper or lower respiratory systems are defined by infections that make it more difficult to breathe. The upper respiratory system starts at the sinuses and ends at the vocal cords, whereas the lower respiratory system starts at the vocal cords and ends at the lungs. It is estimated that young children experience 4 to 8 ARIs each year, with ARIs causing around one third of all deaths in children under the age of 5. Even for milder illnesses such as the common cold, the estimated economic impact in the US of non influenza virus respiratory tract infections is upwards of $40 billion annually when accounting for missed work and school days on top of medical treatment.
