ELLIE LEKOV

Dermatopathology, Uropathology, Gastrointestinal Pathology

Dr. Lekov provides expertise in Gastrointestinal Pathology, Uropathology, and Dermatopathology at Sterling Pathology National Laboratories.

Dr. Lekov graduated from the Residency Program-AP/CP at Harbor-UCLA in 2009.  She served as chief resident and was responsible for the frozen section diagnosis and teaching the junior residents. She worked on several research projects resulting in papers discussing an unusual case of Lymphangioma of the Small Bowel.  After finishing the residency program, she continued as the Surgical Pathology Fellow at Harbor-UCLA with a focus on Dermatopathology, which she completed in 2010.  She had the privilege to work with Dr. Samuel French, a world-renowned Gastrointestinal Pathologist and she gained extensive in-depth knowledge in Gastrointestinal Pathology. During her fellowship at Harbor-UCLA, Dr. Lekov worked as a junior attending while being exposed to a wide variety of difficult gastrointestinal cases.  She is a member of Hepatopathology Club of Metropolitan Los Angeles and regularly attends monthly Liver pathology slide reviews with world distinguished hepatopathologist from leading universities and medical centers.

Dr. Lekov received her initial medical training from the Medical Academy, Sofia, Bulgaria. After graduating, she worked as an Assistant Professor in Clinical Pathology at the same Medical Academy.  Dr. Lekov performed many years of research at California Pacific Medical Center, San Francisco; University of California, San Francisco; and Stanford University.

Dr. Lekov joined Sterling Pathology in 2010 as a Gastrointestinal Pathology Fellow. She has since become an important, well-rounded part of Sterling Pathology’s Pathologist team, utilizing her skills in not only Gastrointestinal Pathology but in Dermatopathology and Uropathology as well.

Dr. Lekov has been a member of the Professional Staff Association at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center since 2010. She is involved in teaching pathology residents and she participates as a consultant in difficult cases.
