Dermatopathology

Dr. Shitabata is board certified in Dermatopathology, Clinical and Anatomical Pathology. Dr. Shitabata has been practicing Dermatopathology since 1994.

He currently serves as the Director of Dermatopathology for the Dermatology Residency Program for the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine and Pathology at UCLA-David Geffen School of Medicine, a Clinical Professor of Pathology at the Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine, and an Adjunct Professor of Pathology and Dermatology at Touro University School of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Shitabata is also the President and Medical Director of the Dermatopathology Institute.

Dr. Shitabata is a member of numerous national and international Dermatopathology societies. He is a distinguished Dermatopathology reviewer for Practical Reviews in Dermatology with over 55 authoritative articles. His former positions include membership with the Leadership Committee for the College of American Pathologists. He was a member of the Council in Public Affairs for the College of American Pathologists (2002-2003).

He is a distinguished member of the Dermatopathologist community and has received 12 awards, including America’s Best Physicians and Outstanding Teaching in Dermatopathology (Harbor UCLA Medical Center). He has over 26 published journal articles in distinguished forums such as the Journal of Cutaneous Pathology and the Journal of American Academy of Dermatology.
